Interpreting about GM mosquitoes
During a press conference about GM mosquitoes to combat Zika virus, WordlyWise Portuguese Interpreter conveys the message seamlessly
In August 2016, Oxitec received scientists from Piracicaba who were able to give first-hand experience both of the burden of mosquito-borne diseases like Dengue and Zika. Oxitec’s technology is being successfully deployed in Brazil to fight the mosquito that transmits these diseases. The company is currently expanding its operations in the city, and building a new factory that will have the capacity to produce 60 million mosquitoes a week. In order to provide Portuguese interpreting (spoken Portuguese from/into English translation) between journalists and visitors from Brazil, WordlyWise Language Services was hired by Oxitec to bridge the communication gap, providing a competent Portuguese interpreter in London to translate consecutively and simultaneously between English and Portuguese.
The Portuguese interpreter used a combination of techniques in order to convey the message accurately. Before the assignment, Oxitec was requested to provide detailed briefing to aid preparation and the result was a successful press conference with a number of interesting articles being published:
It has been an honour to provide a Portuguese Interpreter for such an important assignment and spread the news about this ground-breaking development by Oxitec. The company is a UK subsidiary of Intrexon Corp, originally created as a spin-off company from University of Oxford.
In so many cases, good communication makes the difference. We were very happy to work together with Oxitec and help them achieve their goals. If you need a Portuguese Interpreter in London, do not hesitate to get in touch.
